Some Main Facts Of Eiffel Tower
For the 1889 World Fair occurring at the same time with the French Revolution centenary, the Eiffel Tower was constructed. In a competition, among a huge number of submitted designs, Alexandre Gustave Eiffel won, and took the responsibility to erect the Eiffel Tower.
There are some significant facts of the Eiffel Tower.
• The Eiffel Tower was started to be erected on Jan 26, 1887 and finished on Mar 31, 1889
Erection of the Eiffel Tower took 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days from start to finish .
• Beside the main architect , Alexandre Gustave Eiffel , the main engineers were Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier and Stephen Sauvestre was also the main architect, Jean Compagnon handled the Eiffel Tower construction.
• About 9441 tons of the highest quality puddle iron were used as material for the Eiffel Tower and there are 18038 puddle iron pieces joined together for the Tower .
• Nowadays, the Eiffel Tower is still painted by using brushes .
• The Eiffel Tower base covers 100 m2 area.
• There was just one person died during the Eiffel Tower construction period -- Alexandre Gustave Eiffel died on December 27, 1923 in Paris and not related to work.
• There are 72 names of notable scientists and renowned personalities of France are affixed on the Eiffel Tower sides right on the 1st platform (with 18 names each side )
• Peoples on wheelchairs are able to visit the tower up to the 2nd floor with the lift.
• There are restaurants on the 1st and 2nd floor. The first one named Altitude 95 and faces the Seine River.
• The second floor restaurant named Jules Verne and requires reservation.
• The city of Paris owns The Eiffel Tower and the Societe d'exploitation de la Tour Eiffel limited company took responsibility for a renewable contract of the tower.
• Since inception, more than 200 million visitors came to the Eiffel Tower .
